To date, the Beatles are doubtlessly one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands in history. In the UK alone the Beatles released more than 40 diverse singles, EP’s and albums that climbed the dizzy heights to the number one spot of the charts. They have had more number 1 chart topping albums than any other band in the history of the UK chart. This achievement was of course repeated in countless other countries. Their record label EMI, in 1985 predicted that the fans of the Beatles had bought well over 1 billion records worldwide. Commonly known as the most important and greatest band in history, the cultural impact and the Beatles music defined the 60’s and their excellent music is still relevant for all to see in today’s culture.
The Beatles were more than just a pop group. Hailing from Liverpool in the UK they formed during the 1960’s. The bands members were John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. They without doubt led the mid 60’s “British Invasion” (in music terms) into the United States of America. In the early years their musical tastes and influences were grounded in 1950’s Rock’n’Roll and skiffle. Throughout their career the band explored many different musical styles and invented a few along the way. The new styles of music they brought to the masses ranged from Tin Pan Alley to psychedelic rock. The look the band had evolved over time also, from sharp suits of the early 60s to the “Hippy” styles later in the decade. Throughout the 60’s the Beatles increased not only their musical awareness but their social awareness too and the world watched as their influences reached out to the cultural and social revolutions of their time. As time passed by and with that the band split up in 1970, all of the Beatles ventured into their own solo careers.
