What is a Beatles acetate? A Beatles acetate disc (also known as a lacquer or a test acetate) is a Beatles audio disc that is made as part of the process in producing a gramophne record. Beatles acetate are made from the master tape recording and as such, reprisent an intermediate state before the production of the master disc.
The purpose of the Beatles acetate was to allow the Beatles and other interested parties (George Martin etc) to check the quality of the tape to disc recording and make any required changes to make sure the quality of the master was as close as possible to the original master tape. If it was satisfactory then mass production would begin
